The No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 and Wayne Taylor Racing team officially completed the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with MOTUL Petit Le Mans. Danny Formal, Trent Hindman and Graham Doyle were slated and ready to battle all 10 hours of racing around Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
Hindman qualified the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini GTD to start from 12th and it was all focus to move forward at the drop of the green flag. Action saw no delay on the start of the 10-hour as multi-car GT incident occurred on Lap 1. The No. 45 and Hindman were unfortunately innocent bystander to the Lap 1 incident and obtained damage to the left rear. Heading back to the garage, the Wayne Taylor Racing crew began evaluating the damage sustained. After determining what needed fixed mechanically on the left rear, quick work by WTR sent the No. 45 crew back out on track. With over eight hours remaining, Hindman remained in the car through his first stint.
Now running back out on track, it was all about survival in the GTD class to gain positions on track for the No. 45 team. Doyle took after near seven hours remaining for his first laps of the day for his mandatory drive time. Managing through traffic, Doyle swapped places in the driver’s seat to Formal another hour later. Formal’s single stint was focused to continue the mission of survival before Doyle hopped back in the car for his second half of drive time.
Shortly after dusk, Formal regained controlled the driving duties to finish out his last stint of this season. Smooth and quick pit stops by the No. 45 DEX WTR crew allowed the team to strategically progress forward while on track attrition saw the team gradually move up the leaderboard. As Hindman took over with just under two hours to go, darkness had fallen upon Road Atlanta. Through those last minutes on track as the checkered flag flew, Hindman brought the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini home in 12th place. The entire Wayne Taylor Racing GTD team and drivers can be proud of the recovery effort from Lap 1’s incident through the clock’s expiration.
“What can I say about the GTD guys?” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “The team and drivers did an outstanding job. To have the incident on the first lap, have the issue with the left rear, and then get back in, push hard to the end and finish 12th – well, it is just a testament to these guys, their passion and the fact that they never give up.”
As the 2025 IMSA season comes to a close, the Wayne Taylor Racing GTD program boosts their first victory (CTMP) since joining the class last year.
Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Nightmare scenario, from the start. Lap 1 you are caught up in other people’s messes. When things are out of your control like that, all you can control is how you respond. It was all hands-on deck. Travis (Houge) rolling up his sleeves and getting under the car. You don’t want to see that happen, but it really shows how this team pulls together to get us back on track. We had higher aspirations for today, but we finished where we started, and it was because of the commitment of this team. I am very proud to be part of the Wayne Taylor Racing and DEX team and I look forward to what’s to come.”
Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “What a season. We didn’t have the outright pace this weekend. The team executed great after the incident on Lap 1 when Trent got hit in the back and we had to come for about 45 minutes to make changes. The car was phenomenal. The fastest Lamborghini and we finished where we started. We were 40 laps down due to the incident at the start, but this team never gave up. Amazing pits stops, every driver change. Wayne Taylor Racing has just improved so much this season in our GTD ranks. Crazy or not, Daytona starts in a month! So grateful to everyone. What a season, all we can do is work harder and get more wins next season.”
Graham Doyle, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2: “Today wasn’t the result we were looking for, but it displayed the grit and perseverance of our team and the fact that we will always push for the best results possible. After some unfortunate contact on Lap 1 and some time spent in the garage getting the car put back together, the WTR team never quit, and we got back out and finished the race. Spending the race distance learning more about our car and future ideas we capitalized on a tough day and made the best of it. In the end, I’m just proud of our team and my teammates.”
