2025 LST LAGUNA SECA, ROUND 2, PRE RACE REPORT

Following an impressive opening two rounds for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Championship, the Wayne Taylor Racing squad currently leads two of the class championships with all fourth entries sitting within the top four of the PRO, PRO|AM and AM classes. Entering WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the second doubleheader of the LSTNA season, WTR is ready to build off their opening five wins from Sebring International Raceway, against a record field of 40+ LST competitors.

Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson, the current PRO Drivers’ Championship leaders, head to Laguna Seca aiming to keep their winning streak alive. After two dominating victories at Sebring, the pair are ready to get back to the top step of the podium. For Ericsson, this will mark his first time driving at the historic California track, but the Swedish has a great co-driver in Formal who knows his way around Laguna Seca. Formal, a multi-time LST winner and the 2024 GTD IMSA pole sitter, will help guide his co-driver around the 2.238-mile road course while pulling double duty on the weekend, competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD class.

It's a home race event for Nick Persing and his No. 8 WTR Lamborghini ST as the California native sets sights on his second time racing in Lamborghini Super Trofeo around WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. In 2024, Persing won the second PRO|AM races of the weekend. Now driving in the PRO class, Persing is ready to build off of his learnings from Sebring and put those to the track entering the second round of LST North America competition.

For Brendon Leitch and Anthony McIntosh, the pair entered another track as a first time as co-drivers, but that won’t stop their season opening rhythm. At Sebring, the duo captured the checkered flag to win their first regular season LST North America race and were knocking on the door of a podium before late race contact ended their day early. Heading to Laguna Seca, McIntosh boost three wins from competing the AM class while this will mark Leitch’s first time driving in the natural terrain built road course.

Another pairing in the WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo who are undefeated to start the 2025 season are Graham Doyle and Glenn McGee. In their first season as co-drivers, the duo had a stellar weekend in Sebring as the swept the AM class to win the season opener. McGee is no stranger to the top step of the podium at Laguna Seca, winning multiple times in the AM class. Although Doyle has not yet stood on the podium, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca marked the beginning of Doyle’s motorsports career back in 2023.

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo doubleheader weekend begins on Friday, May 9, with two practice session. On Saturday, May 10, the field will split into two 20-minute qualifying sessions to set the grid for each race. Later in the day on Saturday, the field will go green for the first of the 50-minute races at 7:45 p.m. ET (3:45 p.m. PT). Sunday morning marks the second race of the weekend at 12:35 p.m. ET (9:35 a.m. PT). The Round 3 and 4 doubleheader races will be broadcast on Peacock.

Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Super Trofeo Driver Quotes

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO:

“We’re back in California and its double duty for me with GTD and LST. I’m really excited to get back in the Super Trofeo. We have a really good baseline setup that we found in Sebring and we won both races. Hampus and I are super excited and I’m ready to get Hampus around Laguna Seca, such an incredible racetrack. I’m also excited to see the progression of Graham and Glenn in the AM class and Nick in the PRO doing a great job at Sebring as well as Tony and Brendon in the PRO|AM class. We have a great stable of cars and I’m ready to get behind the wheel of the No. 1 WTR Huracan Super Trofeo and see what we can do.”

Hampus Ericsson,No. 1 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO:

“My expectations for Laguna Seca are definitely to try and keep our momentum from Sebring. It’s not going to be easy, but with such a great team I’m sure we have the best possible chance to make the most of the race weekend! My preparations for Laguna are data/video lessons and of course simulator driving. I haven’t raced there but I’m sure it’ll be amazing. I can’t wait to get the weekend started, let’s do this!”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO:

“Sebring was a really good race to start the season, but I made a couple mistakes, and I plan to learn from those mistakes and have a better weekend in Laguna, hopefully taking home a podium or win.  I think Laguna will suit my driving style a lot better and I also have a good number of laps on the track because it’s my home track. Overall, I think it should be a good weekend and I am excited to announce my partners Sentinel Resource Group, Fremont Bank and Boise State University.”

Brendon Leitch, No. 69 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO|AM:

“I’m excited to get back to racing in the States. We had strong pace at Round 1 and will be pushing hard to take back our championship lead!”

Anthony McIntosh, No. 69 WTR Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO|AM:

“Laguna Seca is a super-fast track. I've had success here in the past and coming off a strong weekend in Sebring, Brendon and I are looking to continue our rhythm for the Championship."

Graham Doyle, No. 10 Dex Imaging Lamborghini Super Trofeo AM:

“Coming off the Sebring doubleheader with two wins and a pole, we are all feeling very confident heading into Laguna Seca. While it is a completely different challenge, we are ready to take it on and continue to capitalize on the success we have found so far. Working with the team, we have been dialing in the setup and focusing on consistency. I can’t wait to get back into the grove and continue pushing forward!”

Glenn McGee, No. 10 Dex Imaging Lamborghini Super Trofeo AM:

"Laguna Seca is such a unique location in the world that all of us are blessed to experience; the place doesn’t even seem real.  The track is unique and has its challenges. Our cars are nearly too fast for it, so all of us have to be on our game here. This is a difficult track to setup for, but we have the very best engineers, mechanics, and a deep roster of drivers that are all contributing good feedback to one another. I know the WTR No. 10 car can win, and Graham and I will be looking to extend our championship lead, and that comes down to managing mistakes at this track. We keep getting faster, but it’s so easy to make mistakes here, or get caught up in other’s mistakes, so we’ll have to be in a higher management mode for this one.”
