2025 GTD LAGUNA SECA PRE RACE REPORT

Returning to the site of one their successful events, the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 team head to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for the second sprint event of the year. In 2024, the team earned a front row start and top five result in their debut year and for 2025 the goal is the repeat, if not better, their success for the first two-hour, 40-minute traditional sprint race.

Danny Formal returns to the site of his first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship pole position when the Costa Rican driver laid down a stellar lap (01:20.866) in the No. 45 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 in 2024. Formal went on to finish in the top five during the sprint event in 2024, leading the opening stint of the race. As for full season co-driver, Trent Hindman, the American driver also has shared success around WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. This year will mark his first year back at the California road course since 2023 and like teammate Formal also has a pole position at Laguna Seca followed up with a podium finish back in 2021.

"We were very competitive at Laguna Seca last year with getting the pole,” said Wayne Taylor, Team Owner. “The driver lineup is different this year, but we have two high quality drivers in Danny and Trent. I know the WTR guys have worked really hard to prepare for this event. We definitely need to get on the podium. We have had chances to do that this season, and things have happened that have been out of our control. Hopefully Laguna Seca will be a good weekend for everybody."

The weekend preparations begin Friday, May 9, with practice for the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini crew. Saturday marks qualifying with the 15-minute session set for 6:15 p.m. ET (3:15 p.m. PT) on Peacock TV. The Monterey SportsCar Championship from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca will see the field take the green flag at 3:10 p.m. ET (12:10 p.m. PT) on NBC.

Trent Hindman, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2:

“It’s no secret that fortune has not favored us this year, but once again we return to a racetrack where we know the No. 45 DEX Lamborghini has a strong history judging by last year’s performance. This breeds confidence. Every race weekend provides an excellent opportunity to reset, re-focus, and continue building on past year’s successes. Laguna Seca is a staple on our IMSA calendar and has been for quite some time now. Both Danny and I have seen some good results here throughout the past in various categories, so I think it’s safe to say that we both love this place for the style of racing it creates and the results we’ve experienced here. In my opinion, there is no such thing as an easy IMSA race! With that said, after starting our year with two extreme long-distance events and one incredibly intense street race, I think we’re pretty well prepared for a standard sprint round at one of the most iconic racetracks in North America. As always with an IMSA sprint race, the intensity will be high but staying adaptable tends to make the physical and mental intensity more manageable.”

Danny Formal, full season co-driver, No. 45 DEX Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2:

“Laguna Seca has a very special place in my heart, I got my first IMSA WeatherTech pole position there last year. It was the only pole position that the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 has got in the last 24 months. I’m super excited to get back there. We had a great race last year. A caution kind of hindered our result to finish sixth, but we’re super excited. The WTR team has been working super hard since Long Beach. The mechanical gremlin has been figured out and the No. 45 will be 100% for Trent and I to go and do our best job possible. I’m super excited behind the wheel of No. 45 DEX Lamborghini and share the track with Trent in the second sprint race of the season.”
