2024 LST Round 5 Post Race Report

The Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (WTRAndretti) stable of four entries in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LST) North America Championship finished the North American leg of the 2024 season in impressive fashion, adding two wins and a podium to its already impressive trophy cabinet this year. The team will now take on the World Finals in Spain as three of WTRAndretti’s four cars remain in championship fights.

After a difficult qualifying session saw Ryan Norman and Danny Formal and the No. 1 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Huracán LST starting in third for both races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), the driver duo found themselves on the backfoot for the weekend. However, the experienced pair managed both races well despite challenging conditions. In Race 1, Formal showed impressive pace in his opening stint before handing the car off to Norman. However, despite Norman maintaining solid pace, a poorly timed caution prevented the team from staying in the podium places, bringing in a fourth-place finish. In Race 2, the pair maintained their starting position, despite contact from a competitor during the pitstop causing damage to the right side of the No. 1 car. Formal held on to third for his closing stint even with a mechanical issue and managed to continue the No. 1 car’s streak of achieving a podium at each weekend in the 2024 LST North America season.

In the No. 8 car, Nate Stacy and Nick Persing had a mixed weekend as they struggled to apply their strong pace across a full race distance. The driver pair had difficult eighth-place finish in Race 1, but managed to follow it up with a strong fourth place in their second showing of the weekend. The team ran in the top positions throughout Saturday’s race but lost out in the closing stages despite showing strong pace. Despite a hard weekend at IMS, the duo remains close in the championship hunt going into the final North American rounds in Spain.

Graham Doyle and Ashton Harrison continued their streak of strong results in the No. 10 DEX Imaging LST with a sixth and fifth in Race 1 and 2, respectively. After issues in qualifying caused the team to start near the rear of the AM class for the doubleheader, the duo fought through the field to secure their strong finishes. Both drivers showed strong pace running in the podium positions for large parts of each minimal caution races. Despite being out of the championship hunt, the driver pair continue to show impressive performance and will look to continue their upward trajectory at the World Finals in Spain.

Anthony McIntosh and Glenn McGee continued their domination in the No. 69 Global Power Components Lamborghini ST as they completed another perfect weekend, achieving a pole position and wins for both races in the AM class. Despite difficulties in practice, the team used their experience to bring themselves up to speed and manage the races perfectly. In both races, the team showed blistering pace and were quickly out of range for the trailing cars, without overextending the car. The duo now holds a strong championship lead in the AM category heading into the final rounds in Spain as they look to complete their title defense.

Next on the schedule for the WTRAndretti LST stable is the World Finals at the Jerez De La Frontera Circuit in Spain. This final round of the 2024 LST season is set to take place on November 14-15, 2024.

Ryan Norman, No. 1 WTRAndretti LST (PRO): “We had an overall okay weekend. We started really strong in practice then struggled for clean laps for both of us in qualifying to end starting third for both races. Yesterday, we ran into a few issues that put us out of reach of the podium. Today, the car was great and had a good start and gave Danny a good car. It looks like Danny lost his front brakes toward the end and at that point it was just bringing it home and gathering the points. Obviously, we wanted come to Indy and get some wins but we will look through the data and go to World Finals to contend for the win and championship.”

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTRAndretti LST(PRO): “You have those weekends then you have the other weekends. This weekend wasn’t quite as dominating as COTA. My worst qualifying position of the year, but the car was awesome. Everyone is so close here. Fine lines to find perfection around here at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We had amazing luck last year and that luck kind of ran out for us on the Super Trofeo side in the PRO class. Ryan did a fantastic job and gave me a good car. Coming into the pits, another competitor left early when Ryan was coming in and hit the right side of our car. We were running good laps until about eight laps to go and I lost brake biases and I was hanging on to the end. Super grateful to everyone at WTRAndretti and congrats to our sister cars who did very well this weekend. Thanks to Ryan for a great weekend. Mathematically, we are in the championship hunt and a lot can happen in racing as we saw today, so we will go to Spain and fight with all we have. If everything goes our way, we can fight to bring home the championship.”

Nate Stacy, No. 8 WTRAndretti LST (PRO|AM): “It was a long weekend. There were some ups and downs. We came in the points championship lead and leaving here a few spots back. It’s a little frustrating but we will rally the team together and head to Spain with our head and shoulders right and ready to compete for the championship.”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTRAndretti LST (PRO|AM): “The weekend was alright. The car had insane speed the entire weekend, and I feel like we did what we could to maximize the pace out of the car. For me personally, I made a couple mistakes throughout the weekend that cost us a couple points here and there. It wasn’t a bad weekend and I’m still happy with my performance and driving. I think we’ll fix a couple of things going into World Finals and we should be able to wrap up this championship no problem. Thank you to the WTRAndretti team for their great work all weekend and to my new partner, Sentinel Resource Group, for coming on board this weekend.”

Glenn McGee, No. 69 Global Power Components LST (AM): “Four wins in four starts at Indy, we like this place! The whole weekend went great. We struggled in practice, and I think the track was a bit dirty; I think we were smart and didn’t chase the track and let the track come to us. We knew WTRAndretti gave us a great setup, and that was true once we got into the race. We kept the tires underneath us and everybody else started falling off and we just took advantage.”

Anthony McIntosh, No. 69 Global Power Components LST (AM): “WTRAndretti put together an awesome car that we knew was going to come together in the second stints. Everything was perfect. Everyone was flawless. It was tough but we stayed disciplined and both races came right to us.”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 DEX Imaging WTRAndretti LST (AM): “That’s it for the stateside rounds of the LST North America here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Really happy with our results even though we didn’t end up on the podium in either race, it was a true show of effort by Ashton and me. We didn’t have the car in qualifying, but we were able to push through the field and make it up in both races. We started 11th in the first race and made it up to sixth and today we started ninth and we were able to make up good positions to finish fifth. Super happy altogether and ready to World Finals!”

Ashton Harrison, No. 10 DEX Imaging WTRAndretti LST (AM): “Wrapping the rounds on U.S. soil here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Graham did a mega job in both of our races. I’m really proud of the team for the effort that we put in. We didn’t have the best qualifying, but we put on the best show climbing several spots in both races. Shoutout the WTRAndretti crew and DEX Imaging for giving us a good car. Looking forward to Spain, which is where I won my first Super Trofeo race, so going back to a track that I really love and have that competitive advantage.”
