2023 LST at Indianapolis Pre Race Report

In an impressive season for the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) team, the stable of drivers are prepared to take on a new track on the schedule as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America (LST) field heads to the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) road course for Rounds 9 and 10 of the season.

UNDEFEATED WINNING STREAK

Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal look to continue their undefeated streak on the 2023 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season as the pair have won all eight races thus far in the year. With the dominant performance, the pair have the chance to lock up the PRO Class Championship at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway event if they capture the pole position and victory in Race 1. On top of competing in the LST doubleheader at IMS, Marcelli will be handling double duty as he joins WTRAndretti teammate and former LST driver, Ashton Harrison, to co-drive the No. 93 Harrison Contracting Company Acura NSX GT3 Evo22 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD class for the TireRack.com Battle On The Bricks this weekend.

NORMAN CHARGING FORWARD

After displaying impressive momentum at VIRginia International Raceway last month, Ryan Norman continues to place pressure on his PRO Class teammates each weekend. Norman enters the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with familiarity as the Ohio-native has previous experience at the 2.439-mile road course from his Indy NXT (formerly Indy Lights) career and Norman will look to use that experience to his advantage come the doubleheader races.

A PAIRING REUNITED AND READY TO CONTEND

Nate Stacy and Nick Persing will return behind the wheel of the No. 8 WTRAndretti entry in the PRO|AM Class after Persing had to miss Rounds 7 and 8 at VIR for a scheduling conflict. As the championship battles near the end of the schedule, Persing and Stacy are ready to close the gap in the points standings and contend for the top position podium come race weekend. After a successful weekend at VIRginia International Raceway for Stacy, Persing is also heading into IMS with momentum after capturing  the Radical Cup Pro 1500 Championship in Laguna Seca over the weekend.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE PROVES SUCCESSFUL

With time comes experience and with experience comes success, and that has proven true for rookie Graham Doyle. As Doyle continues to gain expertise in his rookie campaign of LST, the 17-year-old is coming off two top five class finishes in LB Cup at VIR and is poised for another breakout weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to challenge for a win.

The WTRAndretti stable will kick off action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course starting with practice on Friday, September 15th, at 10:45 a.m. ET followed by qualifying for both races at 8 a.m. ET on Saturday, September 16th. The first race of the Round 9 and 10 doubleheader will go green at 11:50 a.m. ET on Saturday while Sunday will serve host to the second race of the weekend at 10:40 a.m. ET and full race coverage will be broadcast on Peacock.

Kyle Marcelli, No. 1 WTRAndretti (PRO)

“Very much looking forward to Indy. It’s a unique circuit of course and filled with lots of history. It’s a technical circuit, and usually produces exciting races. It’s been a great season for us in the No. 1 LST winning eight consecutive races, and a successful season across-the-board for all WTRAndretti cars. Our goal is simply to win the pole and win the races. But, a number of cars have shown great speed, and aggression, so we don’t expect it to be easy, it never is.”

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTRAndretti (PRO)

“The Battle at the Brickyard, my first time at IMS - such a fantastic racetrack, so important to do well. This is our home race. Our shop is minutes from the track. It’s a phenomenal event. Super excited to drive on that surface, long straights, and very important breaking zones. Kyle and I could clinch the championship in Race 1 with a win and qualifying pole position, so it’s a very important weekend for us. Obviously the (win) streak is something that Kyle and I want to continue to have and continue to work on heading to Europe in November. I’m also super excited for the rest of our team, Ryan Norman, Nate Stacy, Nick Persing, Graham Doyle, everyone on the team trying to get great results. I’m excited to get back in the car next Friday and continue what we have been doing all season long. Thank you to WTRAndretti, Lamborghini Palm Beach and Harrison Contracting Company for trust.”

Ryan Norman, No. 84 WTRAndretti (PRO)

“I’m really excited for the race weekend at Indianapolis! It’s been a while since I’ve raced here and it goes back to my Indy Lights days! I’m one of the few drivers in the field that’s driven here, and I believe this experience will help up a lot. Lots of opportunities for passing with the long straights and should be some exciting racing.”

Nate Stacy, No. 8 WTRAndretti (PRO|AM)

“The bands back together! Nick Persing is back with me in the No. 8 car to tear up some PRO|AM class racing! Excited to get back after it and attack Indy. I’ve never driven here before and can’t wait to go full speed over the bricks!”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTRAndretti (PRO|AM)

“I have never been to IMS so this will be a first for me.  I’m super excited to be back in the car after being forced to miss VIR due to a conflict.  I think the goals for IMS are the same as always, win.  Nate and I aren’t in contention for the championship due to me missing two race weekends, so we just want to go out there and prove we have what it takes to win races.”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 DEX Imaging with WTRAndretti (LB Cup)

“Coming into this race weekend, I’m really excited. I’m looking forward to being at the Brickyard and being able to race at a place is so important to motorsports history and racing. I think we’re in a really good place and the team has really set me up for success this entire season. I feel like with the amount of learning I’ve done over the past couple of weekends racing, puts us in a good spot to hopefully get some wins this weekend.”
