2022 Detroit Grand Prix Qualifying Report

No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 driver Ricky Taylor maximized his pace in qualifying for the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle this afternoon. Running as close to the walls as possible, Taylor finished the session at the high-speed street course with a time of 1:18.945 at 107.163 mph, just one tenth of a second behind pole position and two hundredths of a second behind P2.

Taylor will start the 100-minute sprint from the third position, and he will be looking to make early progress in the team’s pursuit of another podium along with an extension of their lead at the top of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi points standings. Teammate Albuquerque will take the helm for the second stint and finish the race for the blue and black Konica Minolta Acura crew.

“The car was really good in qualifying,” commented Ricky Taylor. “I made a little mistake on our best lap. I think we had the potential for the pole. We have 100 minutes tomorrow to make it happen and third isn’t the worst place to start here for turn one. So, we’re going to do what we can, and Filipe will take us to the finish, and he always makes magic happen. The team has been performing really well all weekend, so I have a lot of confidence that we can make up at least one or two spots tomorrow.”

Green flag for the Detroit Grand Prix will wave at 3:10 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 4th with full coverage streaming on Peacock and television coverage on the USA Network beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
