2021 Acura Grand Prix Qualifying Report

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 team returns to California this weekend for their home event, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. In today’s qualifying session, Filipe Albuquerque placed fifth with a lap of 1:12.461. Wayne Taylor Racing currently sits atop the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with a total of 2,791 points, leading the DPi field with a margin of 89-points over their closest rival.

Full time teammate Ricky Taylor will join Albuquerque in the cockpit for the 100-minute sprint race around the historic 11-turn, 1.968-mile Long Beach street course. The drivers will aim to move through the field in what is the final sprint of the season and penultimate round of the closely contested 2021 championship battle.

“Unfortunately, we were right,” said Filipe Albuquerque. “It is going to be a hard Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-05 crew are doing excellent work. P5 in qualifying is not what we aim for, but it is what it is. The race tomorrow is short, but a lot can happen, so we’ll stay positive. The fastest car doesn’t always win and we need to make sure we finish the race. Strategy might surprise us and come our way. It is very hard to overtake here, so let’s stay positive for tomorrow.”

Green flag for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach will wave at 5:00 p.m. PT tomorrow, September 25 with live coverage on NBC Sports and TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold.
