2020 LST VIR, Rounds 3 & 4 Results

Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing competed at VIRginia International Raceway this weekend for the third and fourth rounds of the 2020 North America Lamborghini Super Trofeo season. The team showed tremendous speed throughout the weekend with four podiums across the Pro, Pro|Am and Am classes.

The weekend kicked off in the best way possible for Lance Willsey in the No. 53 WTR Lamborghini ST, who scored Pole Position for both races in the Am class. In the Pro class, Stevan McAleer qualified 2nd for the first race of the weekend, with his co-driver Stuart Middleton qualifying 4th for the second race of the weekend in the No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini ST.

Unfortunately for Ashton Harrison and Andrea Amici in the No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo, and Sydney McKee in the No. 87 FaDa Racing Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo, the weekend was compromised from the get go. On a damp track for Qualifying on Saturday morning, both cars suffered separate off-track incidents, incurring significant damage in the process. Neither car was repairable, taking McKee out of any further running for the event. However, Harrison and Amici were able to return for the second day of racing at Virginia International Raceway in a different car.

In Race 1 of the weekend, Lance Willsey built upon the momentum from qualifying by running in contention for the win throughout the 50-minute race, ultimately finishing second in the Am class. In the Pro class, Stevan McAleer started the race in the No. 1 Prestige Performance car, quickly moving up from third to second in the overall standings. Handing the car over to Stuart Middleton at the halfway point in the race, Middleton did a superb job to hold off the advances of the chasing car to bring home a second-place finish.

For Race 2 of the weekend, Lance Willsey kindly stepped aside and provided his racecar for Ashton Harrison and Andrea Amici’s championship chase to continue in the Pro | Am class. Due to swapping cars ahead of the race, Harrison had to start 14th, but made a fantastic start to run seventh overall at the end of the opening lap. Harrison would continue her charge through the field, running as high as fourth overall and second in the Pro|Am class before pitting to swap drivers. With Andrea Amici behind the wheel for the final stint, the Italian made some impressive moves to finish third in class and sixth overall.

Stuart Middleton and Stevan McAleer continued their impressive form of late. Starting the race, Middleton made great progress on the opening lap to vault the No. 1 Prestige Performance from fifth to second in the overall standings. Middleton would take the lead briefly before pitting to swap drivers. McAleer would finish the race for the team, chasing down the leader in the closing stages of the race, but ultimately having to settle for second at the line, rounding out a successful weekend for the pairing.

The Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing team travels to Road Atlanta for Rounds 5 & 6 of the 2020 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Championship on September 4-6. Race coverage will broadcast live on IMSA.com/tvlive.

Driver Quotes:

Stevan McAleer, No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (PRO)

“I’m really happy with this weekend. The car was certainly much better than the first weekend, and thanks to Wayne Taylor Racing we’re getting really close. We didn’t quite have the car to win today, but there were a few mistakes people made out there and we took full advantage of it. Stuart got a nice start and really got us into the position we needed. We walked away with a really good amount of points, which we needed to be back in the fight. We got a couple of trophies this weekend and I’m excited for the next event.”

Stuart Middleton, No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO)

“Overall it’s been a really strong weekend with two P2 finishes. We gained a good chunk of points that we needed on the board. I think the team’s made great steps forward to getting us closer to the pace we need to be. I think coming into the next one we’ll make even more steps forward. I’m really happy for the guys because they worked so hard and I’m really happy with that so we’re looking forward to the next one.”

Ashton Harrison, No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO|AM)

“We had a great start to the weekend in practice and some really great pace in qualifying. It’s unfortunate what happened on my behalf during my qualifying stint. I’m so thankful to my sponsor and my team for all the hard work they’ve put in. They’ve been on our car this entire time trying to get it ready for our quick turnaround for Road Atlanta. To be able to jump into another car and represent Harrison Contracting was great and Wayne Taylor Racing really put it together and helped us bring home some valuable points. I’m really looking forward to Road Atlanta in two weeks.”

Andrea Amici, No. 25 Harrison Contracting Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo (PRO|AM)

“This was a very positive end of the race. We got P3, which was a good recovery from last position. I really want to thank the team because they made a huge effort to let us make this race, and also my teammate. She did really well on her stint, recovering multiple positions. We’re really looking forward to Road Atlanta, since it’s Ashton’s home track. We’ll do the best we can to achieve a great result there.”
