The No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette Dallara DP of Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) will start Sunday’s GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen from the pole for the third race in a row after qualifying Saturday at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International was cancelled due to rain and the grid was set per the GRAND-AM rulebook.

Veteran Italian Max Angelelli, who with co-driver Jordan Taylor holds a one-point advantage atop the Rolex Series driver and team standings, was slated to qualify the No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP, but the onset of rain at the 3.4-mile, 11-turn Watkins Glen road circuit prompted officials to call off the session.

“It’s always very important to start in the front,” Angelelli said. “It’s a little bit of an advantage which is paying off, all the hard work we’ve done to maintain the championship lead. Hopefully, I can use that advantage tomorrow and lead the race and set the pace. We’re still working on deciding what kind of setup we’re going to use for the race based on the weather conditions. We don’t know if we’re leaning on a wet setup or dry setup. We’ll make our final decision in the morning. Our car is good in the dry and also good in the wet, so we’re very optimistic. Practice has been good. We’ve sorted out a lot of things. And we saved a set of tires with qualifying being rained out, which also is good.”

The 22-year-old Taylor qualified on the Daytona Prototype-class pole for the first two times in his career at the last two events on the Streets of Belle Isle temporary circuit in downtown Detroit June 1 and at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington June 15. Angelelli and Taylor won at Detroit and finished sixth at Mid-Ohio.

The top-five on the starting grid for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen are:

1. Wayne Taylor Racing (No. 10 Corvette DP) with Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli.

2. Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing (No. 99 Corvette DP) with Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney.

3. Starworks with Alex Popow (No. 2 Ford Riley) with Alex Popow, Sebastien Bourdais and Ryan Dalziel.

4. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (No. 01 BMW Riley) with Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett.

5. Action Express Racing (No. 5 Corvette DP) with Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi.
