The 2017 season is a landmark one for three-time sports car racing champion Wayne Taylor, who, having started the team in 2007 with Max Angelelli, is in his 11th season as owner of Wayne Taylor Racing. The 2017 season is a landmark one for three-time sports car racing champion Wayne Taylor, who is in his 11th season as owner of Wayne Taylor Racing, the team he started at the outset of 2007. As a driver, Taylor has won some of the most prestigious events in all of motorsports around the world – the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Rolex 24 At Daytona (twice), the 12 Hours of Sebring, and the inaugural Petit Le Mans in 1998. To cap it all off, Taylor teamed with Max “The Ax” Angelelli to win the 2005 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series championship in a season that began with his second career Rolex 24 win and ended with five wins and 10 podium finishes in 14 races, and the completion of all 2,056 race laps contested that year. Prior to the 2007 season, Wayne Taylor Racing was established and the first-year team has not missed a beat since. It finished in the top-three in the Rolex Series championship every year but one and entered the inaugural IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship fresh off winning the 2013 DP driver’s championship. His sons Ricky and Jordan Taylor co-drove to four race wins and five runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2015 and added another three wins last year, placing second, fifth and third in the IMSA championship, respectively, those seasons. This year, Taylor’s career with manufacturer Cadillac goes full circle with the introduction of the all-new No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R. From 2000 through 2002, Taylor campaigned and co-drove the historic Cadillac Northstar CTS-V prototype in the IMSA America Le Mans Series.

  • Max Angelelli
    Team Owner

He came to be known as “Max the Ax” for his flamboyant ability to cut through race traffic as one of the winningest drivers in North American sports car racing history and, since joining forces with three-time champion Wayne Taylor in 1999, has been a partner both on and off the racetrack with Taylor. After their runner-up finish in that year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona in the Doyle-Risi Racing Ferrari, Angelelli and Taylor collaborated in the historic Cadillac Northstar CTS-V prototype in IMSA American Le Mans Series competition from 2000 through 2002. From 2004 through 2006, Angelelli and Taylor were perennial championship contenders in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series, winning the title in 2005 in runaway fashion behind five wins and an incredible 10 podium finishes and 12 top-fives in 14 events. In 2007 Angelelli was a partner with Taylor in forming Wayne Taylor Racing and went on to co-drive to 17 victories in seven full-time seasons with various co-drivers from 2007 through 2013, culminating with the 2013 Rolex Series championship alongside Jordan Taylor. He took a part-time driving role while increasing his team management responsibilities in 2014, co-driving with the Taylor brothers at the four events that make up the North American Endurance Cup – Rolex 24, 12 Hours of Sebring, Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, and the Petit Le Mans. He added a victory alongside the Taylors in the 2014 season-ending Petit Le Mans. In 2017, Angelelli saw the fruition of a two-year project he was deeply involved in, working with Cadillac, Dallara and Earnhardt Childress Racing engines to orchestrate the historic introduction of the Cadillac DPI-V.R racecar. Angelelli’s 27 career victories as a driver is surpassed only by Scott Pruett’s 44 and Memo Rojas’ 29.
