The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R will start Saturday’s season-ending Petit Le Mans from the outside of the sixth row after IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying Friday at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia.

Renger van der Zande, who with full-time co-driver Jordan Taylor and IndyCar regular Ryan Hunter-Reay is looking duplicate the team’s first win here in 2014, clocked a fast lap of 1 minute, 11.468 seconds at 127.945 mph around the 2.54-mile, 12-turn road course. It was good for 12th among the 37 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag for Saturday’s 10-hour endurance marathon.

“A very disappointing qualifying, of course,” said van der Zande, who scored an LMPC class win at the 2014 Petit Le Mans and a runner-up finish in 2015. “We have to find out what the real issue is, but the speed just was not there. I think this morning we were a lot better, but there was no way for a top-five in qualifying today. We just need to get back to where we were this morning and find just a little bit more and we can have a good day tomorrow. It didn’t help at the start of qualifying that I got balked by the two Mazdas on two very important laps – when our tires were at their peak. After that, I was able to improve the lap time a bit but it was just a shame they drove off and back on the track trying to get out of the way. There are much better ways to do that, and it ruined my peak of the tires. It was a very small window for the tires.”

The top-five qualifiers for Saturday’s Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta are:

1. Tequila Patron ESM (No. 22 Nissan DPi) Pipo Derani, Johannes van Overbeek and Timo Bernhard (1:10.437 at 129.817 mph)

2. Mazda Team Joest (No. 77 Mazda DPi) Oliver Jarvis, Tristan Nunez and Lucas Di Grassi (1:10.561 at 129.589 mph)

3. Mazda Team Joest (No. 55 Mazda DPi) Jonathan Bomarito, Marino Franchitti and Spencer Pigot (1:10.600 at 129.518 mph)

4. Tequila Patron ESM (No. 2 Nissan DPi) Helio Castroneves, Ricky Taylor and Graham Rahal (1:10.775 at 129.197 mph)

5. Team Penske (No. 7 Acura DPi) Ricky Taylor, Helio Castroneves and Graham Rahal (1:10.780 at 129.188 mph)

The green flag flies at 11:05 a.m. EDT Saturday with live television beginning on FS1 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, then concluding on FS2 from noon to 9:30 p.m.
