Series: Prototype division of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R will start Sunday’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix from the pole for the third time this season after IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying Saturday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Ricky Taylor, who with younger brother Jordan Taylor have driven to podium finishes at the track originally known as Mosport Park each of the last three seasons, including a thrilling victory in 2015, turned a fast lap of 1 minute, 8.459 seconds at 129.309 mph around the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course about an hour’s drive north and east of Toronto. It was best among the 36 car-and-driver combinations that will take the green flag for Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute race. It was Taylor’s 16th career pole, his second in the last three seasons at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and the 26th in team history.

“We couldn’t be starting in a better position for the weekend, so we’re over the moon,” said Taylor, who with his younger brother saw their five-race winning streak to start the 2017 campaign come to an end with a sixth-place finish in last Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. “Our engineer Brian Pillar, being a very proud Canadian, this is a big race for him. Coming off a tough weekend at Watkins Glen, this is the start we need. It’s been a struggle over the last couple of races for outright pace, and coming here to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the team really did its homework and Cadillac has been working night and day to get us back up front. If it’s like this tomorrow – obviously this was a qualifying car, so we’ll have to change some things for the race – hopefully we can replicate this result. We have almost 250 Konica Minolta guests here this weekend inside turn three, so a big shoutout to them.”
